Today, OPI announced a collaboration with superstar Mariah Carey. The multi-platinum recording artist will be the inspiration behind a new collection of nail polish set to debut in January 2013.

Says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director:

OPI is thrilled to work with Mariah, an industry icon who loves nails and considers lacquer one of her favorite accessories. With her magnetic personality both on and off the stage, Mariah serves as a great inspiration for beautiful, bold colors.

Little information is known about this new collection, but I’m excited – what kinds of colors do you think we’ll see when this OPI/Mariah Carey launch hits stores?

I am very excited about the upcoming nail trends we can expect to see this fall, especially since there are quite a few to choose from. From dark and ornate to glitzy and glam, these fall 2011 nail trends really pack a punch.

1. Neutrals

Neutrals are always a popular choice, especially for those who shy away from more “trendy” colors. From deep browns to barely-there nude and everything in between, neutral nails are fast becoming the go-to trend this fall. One to try: Essie Nail Color in Tea and Crumpets, $8, Beauty.com.

2. Glitter

While this look certainly isn’t for everyone, I adore glitter polish and feel it’s a great change for the fall season. You can wear the polish on every nail, but for a modern (and less in-your-face) twist, try painting one nail of each hand with glitter polish and paint the remaining nails a neutral or complementary shade. One to try: Sephora for Opi’s Only Gold For Me, $9.50, Sephora.com.

3. Metallics

Every year, metallic nail polish becomes a big trend and it’s easy to see why. They’re perfect for jazzing up your evening attire, and look great at parties and festive gatherings. Plus, they’re the quintessential feminine polish! One to try: Zoya Nail Polish in Tess, $8, zoya.com.

4. Jewel Tones

Rich jewel tones are a hallmark of the fall season, and nail color is following suit. From emerald green to peacock blue, rich eggplant and burnt orange, jewel tone nail polish is my favorite trend for fall 2011. One to try: ULTA Nail Polish in Envy, $5, ulta.com.

Which nail trend are you looking forward to the most this fall? Leave a comment and let me know – and, as always, stay lovely!
