A Lovely You – Makeup Tips for Every Woman

Best At-Home Hair Color

Posted on: August 29, 2011

Coloring your hair at home can save time and money, but only if you purchase a quality dye that won’t wreak havoc on your tresses. The next time you get the urge to switch up your look, consider one of these five at-home hair color kits.

1. Clairol Nice ‘n Easy with Color Blend Technology

This permanent hair color offers a wide range of  natural looking shades, and combines highlights, lowlights and shine for dimensional hair color in just one step. It’s a gentle, long lasting color and very easy to use. When I dye my hair, I typically choose red shades but other dyes fade to an icky orange color. With this dye, I don’t have that problem! When the red fades, I am left with a pretty auburn/brown shade that looks just as good as when it’s freshly colored. Lovely!

2. Clairol Natural Instincts Hair Color

For a semi-permanent color that gently covers grays, Clairol’s Natural Instincts Hair Color is the ticket. Most semi-permanent dyes leave a dull, flat look to hair but this product gives true, natural looking color in a mere 10 minutes. Plus, it leaves hair feeling soft and conditioned, not dry and brittle like harsher dyes.

3. Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Multi-Lights Highlighting Kit

This is one of the best and easiest at-home highlighting kits I’ve found, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The kit includes a non-drip applicator allowing you to deposit color exactly where you want it, and can be used on both color treated and natural hair. While I love getting my hair done at a salon, the expense kills me; this at-home highlighting kit helps me keep up appearances without spending an arm and a leg to do so!

4. L’Oreal Excellence Creme Haircolor

A protective pre-color serum that comes with this haircolor ensures your hair will stay smooth and conditioned even after you color, and the non-drip formula makes applying a breeze! With a wide range of shades to choose from and 100%, long lasting coverage for grays, this haircolor offers superior results at a bargain price. How can you go wrong?

5. Manic Panic Semi-Permanent Haircolor Cream

Even though this isn’t a “traditional” hair dye, for those of us who like to experiment with funky colors from time to time, Manic Panic is a must. A wide range of look-at-me shades are available, from vivid red to electric blue and everything in between. Plus, since it’s semi-permanent, you don’t have to be afraid of a long commitment.
