A Lovely You – Makeup Tips for Every Woman

3 Fall Makeup Trends to Flip For

Posted on: September 15, 2011

Fall makeup trends are a bold mix of metallic shadows, fiery lips and fierce eyeliner – but can real women pull it off? Of course! The trick – choosing one of these trends to focus on at a time, rather than looking like a hot mess. Keep reading to find 3 fall makeup trends you’ll flip for.

Metallic Eyes

For a gorgeous take on a smokey eye, turn to one of fall’s metallic eyeshadows. While the classic black and gray palette works for a traditional smokey eye, I love the vibrant pop of a deep eggplant shade for a contemporary look and feel. If you opt for this trend, keep the rest of your makeup simple with a matte lip and flawless skin. Worried that metallic shadows may look too aggressive for your skin tone? If you’re fair, choose grays or blues. If you have warm undertones, rich bronze and gold shadows work great, and silver is a neutral that looks good on pretty much everyone! One to try: Bobbi Brown Metallic Eyeshadow, $20, Sephora.

Fierce Eyeliner

Winged eyeliner has been all over the runways as one of fall’s hottest trends, but the look can be intimidating if you aren’t sure how to nail the technique. Start by using a gel liner, as it gives you the super precise application you need without being as hard to control as pencil or liquid liner. Then, start your wing shape from the outer corner of the iris to right below the end of your eyebrow; make a second thin line across the inner part of the lash line. To correct mistakes, use a cotton swab filled with makeup remover like Andrea’s Eye Q’s Eye Makeup Correctors.

Bold Lips

Red lips are a hot look for fall, but women aren’t always confident in their ability to wear such a bold look. Put simply, if you have fair skin look for a red lipstick with coral-based undertones; medium skin tones can get away with true or pink-y reds, while dark skin tones look amazing in brick or deep burgundy shades. Finally, tomato red shades look lovely on olive skinned women. One universally flattering red to try: Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Lipcolor in Absolute Rouge, $29, Sephora.
