A Lovely You – Makeup Tips for Every Woman

100% Vegan Makeup Brushes

Posted on: January 3, 2012

Unless a makeup brush is specifically labeled synthetic, Taklon, or nylon – chances are, that makeup brush contains animal hair. Unfortunately, while we might like to believe the animals this hair is taken from were not inhumanely treated, it’s too often the case that they are. With that being said, I’ve found many 100% vegan and cruelty-free makeup brushes you can add to your collection – give them a try and let me know what you think!

EcoTools

EcoTools have a great line of bamboo makeup brushes, and this six-piece set from Drugstore.com contains several of the most commonly used brushes in any woman’s beauty routine. Plus, in addition to their synthetic bristles, they even use recycled and natural materials and come packaged in a reusable storage pouch.

Earth Diva Cosmetics

Earth Diva Cosmetics has a full line of synthetic, quality makeup brushes in a wide range of prices. While you can buy any brush individually, they also offer a full vegan brush set including all the tools you need to get gorgeous.

Herbs of Grace

Herbs of Grace sell a quality line of individual makeup brushes that are hand shaped and never contain any animal hair. While a bit on the pricey side (they don’t seem to offer a complete set,) you truly get what you pay for when it comes to makeup brushes. Choose from a wide selection, including a vegan kabuki brush, eyeshadow brushes, lip brushes and lots more.

Afterglow Cosmetics

Especially great for applying mineral makeup, the vegan cosmetic brushes from Afterglow Cosmetics are extremely soft and 100% cruelty-free. These brushes are also on the high side price-wise, but they are very high-quality and will last for a long time with the proper care.

Monave

Monave has 8 vegan and cruelty-free makeup brushes available, including an angled eyeliner brush (my favorite!) shadow brush, flat-top  brush, blending brush, lip brush, kabuki brush, a mini bronzer brush and a blush brush. They’re super soft and make applying makeup a cinch, plus they aren’t priced too extravagantly either.

There are countless more 100% vegan makeup brushes out there, but I wanted to highlight a few companies that many people may not be aware of. Most of these companies also offer cruelty-free makeup and other beauty products too, so don’t be afraid to browse! Do you have any recommendations for 100% vegan makeup brushes I didn’t mention?
