A Lovely You – Makeup Tips for Every Woman

Archive for the ‘Favorites’ Category

This month, I’ve picked a few favorites from my beauty cabinet that continue to impress me. In no particular order, here they are!

1. Color Club Nail Polish in Love ‘Em Leave ‘Em

Despite the fact that I’m drawn to brights and neon colors during this time of the year, the pretty light golden brown of this polish is seriously gorgeous. Plus, it’s holographic and shimmery in sunlight! Seriously, look up a swatch of this shade – you’ll fall in love. Normally I’m ADD when it comes to polish and have to change it every few days, but this puppy has been on my nails for a week now and holding up nicely.

2. NYX Ultra Pearl Mania

These are a lot smaller than I realized initially, but a little goes a long way. This loose shimmer eyeshadow is really pretty and can be used to create a variety of looks (I have Orange Zest, and it’s a very nice, bright orange – not clownish, though.) The shimmer is very visible, but it’s flattering and not over the top. Plus, it’s super easy to blend.

3. Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange Body Butter

You can read my review of this body butter here – if you do, you’ll know why it’s made the list of favorites this month! Not only does it smell absolutely divine (especially when you layer it with the matching perfume,) but it’s very moisturizing and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth almost all day long. It’s also fast absorbing and non-greasy, so you don’t have to worry about having an icky, heavy film on your skin after applying.

What beauty products are you currently loving this month?

I realize I’ve been pretty much off the radar lately (minus a post or two,) so I apologize for that. Things have been crazy busy! In any case, here are my picks for favorite beauty products this month. One of them ended up being a surprise favorite and I am so glad I took the plunge and purchased it on a whim.

Without further ado, here are my June Beauty Favorites (in no particular order.)

1. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

This is a new product from Revlon and when I FINALLY found it, I was stoked. While they didn’t have the color I initially wanted, I picked up Rendezvous (an orange-y coral) on a whim. I’m so glad I did! Even though I’m fair skinned, the shade didn’t look garish on me. It felt super creamy going on and actually lasted a respectable amount of time. I applied a complimentary gloss on top (Essence’s XXXL Shine Lipgloss in Sparkling Papaya) and it looked fab. I can’t wait to get some more colors!

($7.99, Target)

2. Victoria’s Secret Tropic Breeze Body Mist & Cream

For some reason, I can’t find this on the VS website, but I was at a retail store last week and purchased the fragrance mist and body cream. They were having a crazy awesome sale (5 for $20, mix and match) so I picked up a few things for myself and treated my sister, as well. Yay for girl’s shopping days! Anyway, I immediately fell in love with this scent – it’s so tropical and juicy and summery. I especially love layering the cream and the fragrance spray so the scent lingers. If you happen to be near a retail VS location, you should definitely stop in and see if this is still available – it’s really yummy!

3. Maybelline ShineSensational Lip Gloss in Crazy for Caramel

Oh my GOODNESS does this smell fantastic. It smells exactly like a yummy, chewy caramel candy and it makes your lips this gorgeous, sheer shade of bronze that’s really flattering. My sister fell in love with it, too. I am a big fan of Maybelline’s ShineSensational glosses, but you may want to steer clear if you don’t like sticky lip gloss – these are definitely sticky. However, the caramel scent is divine so if you are a sucker for caramel… you may want this in your stash, anyway!

($5.99, Drugstores)

There you have it – my favorites for the month. What products are you currently obsessed with?

This month, I  have a few new favorite beauty obsessions to share with you. Let me just say – it’s hard to narrow my list down for these monthly posts! In any case, here are my current May Beauty Favorites (in no particular order.)

1. Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in April

I am definitely addicted to Buxom Lip Polish, and April is my absolute favorite shade. I initially was introduced to this shade a few years ago when I purchased a kit from Sephora with a bunch of different lip products. It wasn’t available for purchase for quite some time, but it’s available now – and it’s SO WORTH IT. It’s the perfect icy pink shade and flatters my complexion nicely. Plus, it lasts for quite awhile on my lips – bonus!

($18, Sephora)

2. Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream

Not only does this lemon-y cuticle cream smell amazing, but I can totally tell the difference in my cuticles and nails when I use this. I attempt to apply this as part of my nightly beauty routine, but if I skip a day or two it’s VERY obvious – so I know it works. Plus, it doesn’t leave my hands or nails greasy for very long, but rather sinks into my skin and leaves them looking and feeling very healthy.

($5.99, Drugstore.com)

3. Milani Lip Flash in Photo Flash

These pencils are crazy cool. While I know some bloggers have had bad experiences with the gritty feel of the glitter that’s left over on lips when the color fades, it doesn’t bother me enough to stop wearing them. They’re amazingly pigmented and because they’re a lip pencil, they’re super easy to apply.

($6.99, MilaniCosmetics.com)

4. Smashbox Limitless Cream Shadow

I didn’t think any eyeshadow could beat my love for L’Oreal Infallible, but I was wrong. The cream shadows from Smashbox are TOTALLY tied for first place with my stand-by Infallible shadow. I have three shades of this shadow, and I love every single one. Not only did this shadow stay on throughout an entire sweltering day, but I was in an out of the pool and – while my mascara smudged – this shadow stayed put. It was only slightly faded when I went to bed. These are true winners in my book!

What are you favorite products this month?

This month, I’ve discovered a few new favorites among my beauty arsenal that I’d like to share with you.

1. Ulta Super Shiny Lip Gloss in Poppy

When they say super shiny, they really mean it – this lip gloss packs a seriously shiny punch. The colors are designed to be sheer, so even though “Poppy” looks frighteningly bright in the tube, it imparts a sheer red color on my lips. You can wear this alone, but I like to layer it over a more pigmented lip color for a great look.

($5-8, Ulta)

2. Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia Perfume Roll-On

If you love the smell of gardenia flowers, you will adore this perfume roll-on. This is the only Pacifica product I own, but I am eager to try other scents from the brand because I love this one so much! It smells quite strong at first, but it fades after a few minutes on skin to a light floral fragrance that’s irresistible.

($12, Pacifica)

3. e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow

I haven’t used my mineral shadows from e.l.f. in awhile due to my well-known obsession with L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow, but I decided to give them a go again and I totally remembered why I  loved them so much in the first place. I have three coordinating shades of pink and purple that look absolutely lovely on the eyes and are really long lasting for such a budget shadow.

What are you currently loving this month?

In random order, here are the products I am currently loving this month. It’s a little longer than my previous “Favorites” posts, but that’s because it was reallllly hard to narrow down my list to a mere 3 choices!

1. L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow

You already know from a previous post that I am obsessed with these shadows, and that hasn’t changed. I have four shades, and I can’t wait to pick up more. These shadows glide on like a dream and are so gorgeous and easy to blend. PLUS, I don’t experience very much fall-out at all, which makes them a true winner in my book.

($8, Ulta)

2. Biore Daily Cleansing Cloths

These pre-moistened cloths are perfect for when I’m too lazy (or too busy) to wash my face with my normal cleanser. Plus, they smell really great – which is weird, but they do! My skin doesn’t feel dry or tight after using them, either, which is an added bonus.

(Price Varies, Drugstores)

3. Lavanila Vanilla & Passion Fruit Fragrance

I LOVE this perfume, and wear it often. Because it’s made with essential oils, you only need a little bit. Trust me – it’s really easy to over-do this, so be careful and only spritz a small amount. The fragrance lasts all day on me, and smells absolutely delicious. Supposedly, this particular scent also includes aphrodisiacs, but I can’t comment on the validity of that – try it for yourself and see what happens 😉

($39, lavanila.com)

4. Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss in Supergirl

For a super budget-friendly lipgloss, I can’t get enough of this one by Essence. “Supergirl” is a gorgeous bright pink shimmer, and while it doesn’t last all day, I don’t mind reapplying. It’s non-sticky and surprisingly pigmented, and they have several colors to choose from. My new favorite lipgloss!

($1.99, Ulta)

What are your current beauty favorites this month? Don’t be afraid to share 🙂

In no particular order, here are the products I’m currently loving this month.

1. NYC Smooch Proof 16HR Lip Stain

It doesn’t last for 16 hours on me, but it does last for a pretty long time – I’ve been able to eke out 5-6 hours of decent wear before I feel like reapplying. Plus, I love how the color is buildable from a sheer flush to a more intense shade. The marker-style applicator is also a bonus and makes this stain super easy to apply and use.

($4.99, newyorkcolor.com)

2. NYX Powder Blush in Angel

Typically, I use cream or gel blush, but this budget-friendly powder blush from NYX is GORGEOUS on me. It goes on sheer, but you can build the color until you achieve your desired result. I have fair skin, so this pinky blush leaves a sheer wash of color that’s very flattering.

($4.50, Cherry Culture)

3. Bath & Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom Fragrance Mist

An old favorite of mine, I’ve renewed my love for this fragrance and have been wearing it almost daily since the end of last month. I like to layer my matching shower gel and lotion with this mist so I’m wrapped in yummy scents all day long.

($14, Bath and Body Works)

Even though it’s still early in the month, I’ve definitely picked out my current obsessions for January. Below are my January Beauty Favorites, in no particular order.

1. e.l.f. Essentials Super Glossy Lip Shine in Honey Do

I’ve had this before, and my sister recently purchased it again for me as part of my Christmas gift – LOVE! It tastes great, goes on super shiny and has just the perfect hint of peachy-coral color that I imagine would flatter nearly every complexion. Plus, it’s only a buck – how can you beat that?

($1, eyeslipsface.com)

2. China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Love Marilyn

What can I say about this polish other than I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It’s the perfect, festive red glitter and goes on smoothly with two coats. It was hard narrowing down my favorite polish out of my current collection, but this one has definitely captured my heart for January.

($3.50, Head2ToeBeauty.com)

3. Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Luminous Makeup

Normally I’m not a fan of liquid foundations, but this lightweight one smooths on easily and covers my imperfections surprisingly well. Plus it has a silky texture and feel and didn’t wear off on me like a lot of liquid foundations do. Definitely a top pick for January!

($10.50, Target)

What are your favorites for January? Any new products or old standbys you swear by this month?
