A Lovely You – Makeup Tips for Every Woman

Summer will be here before we know it, and what color is more sunny than yellow? I know that yellow polish isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I can’t help but be drawn to this shade, especially when temperatures rise. In no particular order, here are 5 yellow nail polishes that are simply perfect for summer.

1. Zoya “Pippa”

Love, love, LOVE this lemon yellow cream. It’s sunny, bright and looks amazing against a tan (faux tan, ladies – skin cancer isn’t hot.) It isn’t a neon, but it’s still just as lovely and covers well in two coats.

2. China Glaze “Yellow Polka Dot Bikini”

This was from their Poolside collection a couple of years ago, but it’s still available if you wanted to get your hands on it. This yellow polish from China Glaze is THE bright, in-your-face neon color that a lot of women love and will definitely be very eye catching this season.

($7, Ulta)

3. Deborah Lippmann Nail Color “Yellow Brick Road”

This yellow polish has a jelly finish, so be prepared to swipe several coats on nails if you’re looking for opaque coverage. This “mellow yellow” was designed to be flattering on all skin tones, so if you don’t think you look good in yellow give this one a try.

4. NARS Thakoon for NARS “Amchoor”

All of the colors from the NARS collaboration with fashion designer Thakoon are gorgeous, but Amchoor is the perfect yellow polish to adorn tips and toes this summer. This vibrant yellow is imbued with UV protection, so color stays bright and true for as long as you wear it.

($18, Sephora)

5. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Color “Mellow Yellow”

If vibrant yellow isn’t for you, Sally Hansen’s “Mellow Yellow” is the perfect compromise. This soft, muted yellow hue looks lovely on fair skin and is a great shade for women who shy away from bright colors.

White/silver metallic eyes were popping up on runways everywhere, and this look is one of my favorite spring beauty trends for 2012. To get the look yourself, check out these beauties:

This look just needs a wash of metallic silver/white over the lid, and voila – instant glam. You can jazz it up with two coats of black mascara, if you like. Alternatively, ditch the eyeshadow and add a pop of metallic sheen to lids with a silver eyeliner.

What do you think? Do you like this latest spring beauty trend?

One of the hottest trends for spring seems to be navy eyeliner. Less harsh than black, navy eyeliner can make a smokey eye really stand out. A few to try:

1. Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner in Navy, $4.99, Target
2. Tarte EmphasEYES Aqua-Gel Eyeliner in Navy, $18, Sephora
3. L’Oreal HIP Studio Secrets Professional Eye Liner Pencil in Navy, $8.49, Drugstore.com

Fortunately, navy works well with pretty much every skin tone – so any woman call pull this look off. Even though navy can look softer than black, take care to keep the rest of your makeup neutral to avoid clashing (especially if you are doing a smokey eye.) You can have a lot of fun playing around with navy eyeliner, either wearing it alone or combining it with other colors for an eye-popping look. Normally, I stick with black liner – but this season, I think I’ll be trying navy to switch things up a bit. What about you?

I’m really loving the extreme smoky eyes seen on the spring 2012 runways, especially since this heavy makeup doesn’t require such precise application as a traditional smoky eye would.

I love the classic black smoky eye, but with this extreme look you can feel free to play with blues and purples too. What do you think? It’s definitely too harsh for the daytime, but I think this would be a killer nighttime trend to rock.

I’m always excited when new beauty products are released, and while I can’t possibly list them all I have selected a few I think are definitely drool-worthy.

CoverGirl Blast Flipstick

This dual-sided lipstick combines two shades that can be worn alone or blended together any way you like to create your own signature lip color. I actually picked one of these up at Target in “Perky,” but they have 12 other shades to choose from. I like how you can mix and match shades to create your perfect lip look, but I especially love that these lipsticks don’t feel dry –  they’re actually pretty moisturizing. Just make sure to exfoliate your lips before applying any lipstick; if you have even a hint of dry, chapped skin this lipstick will adhere to it and make your lips look like a hot mess.

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush

I want to try this blush so badly! I really like how this blush says it feels lightweight like powder blush, but that it also allegedly sinks into skin like a cream. Ulta has 10 available colors, and I’m definitely digging “Fresh Pink” and “Candy Coral,” especially since coral is such a hot color for spring.

($7.99, Ulta)

Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette – Mi Vida Loca

I adore bright, bold shadows, and this new palette from Kat Von D is totally calling my name (but I am doing my best to resist!) The palette contains 8 eyeshadows plus a mini eyeliner so you can create a variety of looks with just one palette, which I like. The price is a bit steep, but may be worth it for anyone who wants to try out a new dramatic look.

($34, Sephora)

Zoya True and Fleck Collections

The new spring 2012 nail polish collections from Zoya were recently released, and I am in love with so many of them! I haven’t managed to get my hands on any of the colors from these collections yet, but I have my eye on all of the flecks, as well as “Tru” and “Bevin” from the True collection. Totally gorgeous.

Which new beauty products are you eager to try?

If you want to overhaul your makeup bag for spring, you don’t have to spend a lot of cash to do so. All of these spring beauty must-have’s are a mere $15 or less, meaning you can totally revamp your look without breaking the bank.

NYX Advanced Salon Nail Polish in Surf

NYX has a lot of nail colors that are perfect for spring, but I  love Surf. It’s a gorgeous pastel blue/green, and reminds me of relaxing poolside or by the ocean with a drink in my hand (preferably one with an umbrella in it.) Plus, it’s super cheap!

($3.60, CherryCulture.com)

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in Cute Pink

Flirty, flattering and oh-so-pretty, Sephora’s cream lip stain in “Cute Pink” is going to quickly become my go-to lip color for spring. It’s a vibrant, shimmery hot pink that has the staying power of a stain with the moisturizing properties of a lipbalm.

($12, Sephora)

Maybelline Perfect Pastels Eye Shadow Trio in Green Gardens

Three complimentary pastel shadows are housed in this compact from Maybelline and will look great worn alone or together for a coordinating eye look. Plus, the compact tells you exactly where to put each shade, so even a makeup novice can use this palette.

($5.99, CVS)

Tokidoki Bellina Blush

This blush from Tokidoki contains two sheer, buildable shades you can combine to create your perfect blush. I love the “Skate Girl” shade, but “Siberia” is pretty too – especially if you want a hint of a bronze glow to liven up your complexion.

($15, Sephora)

Do you have any budget-friendly beauty buys you think are  must-have’s this spring? Please share them with me in the comments 🙂

Coral has consistently been on-trend for several seasons now, and this spring will be no exception. While you may have rocked coral on your cheeks or nails before, spring is all about the coral lip.

A few to try:

1. Love & Beauty Sheer Lip Gloss in Coral; $1.80, Forever21 (great for just a hint of coral color)

2. Shiseido Perfect Rouge Glowing Matte Lipstick in Coral Glow; $25, Sephora (for a vibrant, red-coral)

3. Laura Mercier Lip Stain in Tempting Coral; $20-22, Saks 5th Avenue (for long-lasting color)

What do you think of the coral lip for spring? Will you be rockin’ this look?
