A Lovely You – Makeup Tips for Every Woman

Posts Tagged ‘L’Oreal

As far as drugstore brands go, I never used to care much about L’Oreal. However, that all changed when they came out with my #1 favorite product, which you’ll find below – along with four other L’Oreal products I can’t live without, now that I’ve given them a chance.

Shade: Endless Sea

1. L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow

It’s no secret I’m in love with this shadow. Since its debut, I haven’t stopped talking about it – and even got my sister hooked on the unbelievably budge-proof shades. I have several of these and they are always in my makeup bag! At some point, I know I’ll have all of these shades – or at least a good portion of them!

2. L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail Eyeliner

My sister turned me onto this eyeliner – I needed a replacement for my Maybelline, which wasn’t impressing me anymore. This is seriously one of the best budget-friendly liners I’ve tried, and it lasts for a long time. Plus, I like how I don’t have to mess with a sharpener. While I don’t know if it wears 16+ hours, it definitely wore 8 hours straight with no fading, smudging or creasing.

Shade: Riotous

3. L’Oreal H.I.P Studio Secrets Metallic Eyeshadow Duo

These highly pigmented shadow duos aren’t for the faint of heart, but they definitely deliver an impact. I have one of these and am super impressed by how blendable and bold these shades are. Plus, the metallic finish adds just enough shimmer without being too over the top.

4. L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Magic Perfecting Base

I had a sample packet of this, and I don’t know why I haven’t run out to buy the full size – it’s pretty awesome. It made my skin look super smooth and helped provide a good canvas for foundation. While it isn’t the best primer I’ve ever used, I do like how it feels on my skin. It helped even out my skin tone, as well!

5. L’Oreal Everstrong Deep Replenishing Mask

I really like how this hair mask is sulfate-free, but that’s not even the best part about it. The best part? How may hair looks afterwards! Not only did this mask help tame my massive frizz problem, but it left my locks feeling super soft and healthy. Plus it has a really pleasant coconut scent that isn’t overwhelming.

Coloring your hair at home can save time and money, but only if you purchase a quality dye that won’t wreak havoc on your tresses. The next time you get the urge to switch up your look, consider one of these five at-home hair color kits.

1. Clairol Nice ‘n Easy with Color Blend Technology

This permanent hair color offers a wide range of  natural looking shades, and combines highlights, lowlights and shine for dimensional hair color in just one step. It’s a gentle, long lasting color and very easy to use. When I dye my hair, I typically choose red shades but other dyes fade to an icky orange color. With this dye, I don’t have that problem! When the red fades, I am left with a pretty auburn/brown shade that looks just as good as when it’s freshly colored. Lovely!

2. Clairol Natural Instincts Hair Color

For a semi-permanent color that gently covers grays, Clairol’s Natural Instincts Hair Color is the ticket. Most semi-permanent dyes leave a dull, flat look to hair but this product gives true, natural looking color in a mere 10 minutes. Plus, it leaves hair feeling soft and conditioned, not dry and brittle like harsher dyes.

3. Garnier Nutrisse Nourishing Multi-Lights Highlighting Kit

This is one of the best and easiest at-home highlighting kits I’ve found, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The kit includes a non-drip applicator allowing you to deposit color exactly where you want it, and can be used on both color treated and natural hair. While I love getting my hair done at a salon, the expense kills me; this at-home highlighting kit helps me keep up appearances without spending an arm and a leg to do so!

($6.99, drugstores)

4. L’Oreal Excellence Creme Haircolor

A protective pre-color serum that comes with this haircolor ensures your hair will stay smooth and conditioned even after you color, and the non-drip formula makes applying a breeze! With a wide range of shades to choose from and 100%, long lasting coverage for grays, this haircolor offers superior results at a bargain price. How can you go wrong?

($7.19, drugstores)

5. Manic Panic Semi-Permanent Haircolor Cream

Even though this isn’t a “traditional” hair dye, for those of us who like to experiment with funky colors from time to time, Manic Panic is a must. A wide range of look-at-me shades are available, from vivid red to electric blue and everything in between. Plus, since it’s semi-permanent, you don’t have to be afraid of a long commitment.

($12, drugstores)

The right red lipstick can be bold, empowering and super sexy on any woman – you just need to find the right one for your skin tone! Check out my recommendations for the best red lipstick for your complexion, whether you’re super fair, dark skinned or anywhere in between.

If You’re Fair:

Look for a red lipstick with hints of coral/orange tones; this type of red won’t wash out your skin tone but rather complement your complexion. Best Picks: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire and Ice (pictured) $6.39, drugstores; L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in British Red, $8.95, drugstores; Rouge Dior Lipcolor in Blazing Red, $32, Sephora.

If You’re Medium:

Medium-skinned girls should look for a red lipstick with pink or cranberry undertones; true red shades look beautiful too. Best Picks: Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red, $6.39, drugstores; Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in Rouge Flamme, $30, Sephora; Maybelline ColorSensational Lipcolor in Are You Red-dy, (pictured) $7.49, drugstores.

If You’re Olive:

Strong, fire-engine reds look great on women with olive skin tones. Best Picks: Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Red, $23, Sephora; CoverGirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor in Red Satin, $8.24, drugstores; Too Faced Lip of Luxury in Runaway Red, (pictured) $20, Sephora.

If You’re Dark:

Avoid bright reds, and instead opt for deep brick reds or burgundy shades; those types of reds flatter darker skin beautifully. Best Picks: NARS Lipstick in Shanghai Express (pictured,) $24, Sephora; L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Pure Burgundy, $8.95, drugstores; Black Radiance Lipstick in Reggae Red, $1.99, drugstores.

Let me know how these work for you if you decide to try out the red lipstick trend for yourself! If you already rock red on a regular basis, leave a comment with whatever you think the perfect shade of red for your skin tone is. As always, stay lovely!

As a lover of all things beauty, I have been known to splurge a time or two (or three!) on expensive makeup. However, nothing beats the thrill I get when I purchase a budget-friendly product that works just as well as more expensive ones. With that in mind, I’ve compiled this list of the best budget eyeshadow I’ve tried throughout the years. None of them are more than $10!

1. Maybelline Expertwear Trio Eyeshadow

I love the shade selection of Maybelline’s Expertwear Trio Eyeshadow ($3.99.) Whether you want to create a neutral look for daytime or a classic smoky eye for evening, you’ll be able to with this dynamo product. The shadows glide on effortlessly, and leave behind a silky, finished look that doesn’t cake or smudge.

2. L’Oreal Wear Infinite Single Eyeshadow

This beautiful shadow blends beautifully and drenches your lids in lush, highly pigmented color that can be worn alone or combined with other colors for a gorgeous look. I like to use one shade as a base, and blend one or two other shades on top to create a more contoured, defined look. ($4.79)

3. CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 4 Kit Shadow

I love the bright, poppy colors of these shadows – they work especially well for the spring and summer months! For $4.99, you get four blendable shadows that are perfect when worn alone or combined. The compact even comes with how-to tips to help you recreate the look you want in minutes. Plus, the shadows seem to last for hours, even when I don’t use a shadow primer first. Beautiful!

4. e.l.f. Studio Cream Eyeshadow

Don’t let the price fool you – e.l.f.’s Studio Cream Eyeshadow packs a wicked punch for the mere price of $3.00. The creamy shadow glides on beautifully, and doesn’t cake or crease like a lot of the cream shadows I’ve tried in the past. The shade selection is nothing to laugh about, either – plus, it’s almost completely smudgeproof! Give it a try, and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

5. Sephora Collection Jumbo Liner 12HR Wear

Sure, these jumbo pencils are technically eyeliner, but they can easily be blended as shadows – I use them this way all the time! The pencil glides smoothly over lids and eliminates the mess of traditional creamy shadows. They won’t tug, fade or crease and, after a long evening of dancing, I found the color stayed put throughout the night! For $10, stock up on a few of your favorites and blend together for a truly customized look.

While these are my top 5 favorite budget eyeshadows, if I missed one of your picks don’t be afraid to nag me about it in the comments section 🙂 As always, stay lovely!
