A Lovely You – Makeup Tips for Every Woman

This week, I’d like to highlight a few of my favorite Maybelline products for this Brand Spotlight. I know that a lot of women seem to have a love/hate (sometimes just hate) relationship with the brand, and while I have definitely encountered some duds there are a few products that continue to impress me every time I use them.

1. Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow

I was hooked on these shadows the moment I tried them, so I’m glad I bought into all the hype and decided to give these a go. I have a few shades, and all of them are not only gorgeously pigmented but seriously long lasting, too. Do they last 24 hours? Heck if I know since I’m long past my “partying all night” days (mostly…), but I can tell you they last a good 8+ hours with very little to no fading or creasing.

2. Dream Bouncy Blush

There were a lot of mixed reviews on these when they first came out, but I’m glad I decided to give them a try. I love how light and airy they are – there’s something so fun about the sponge-like texture. Plus, the color is buildable – you can opt for a sheer flush of color or build it up for a more eye popping shade. Plus, it lasts a decent amount of time on my finicky skin.

3. Shine Sensational Lip Gloss

If it were up to me, I’d have ALL of the flavors available from this line – the few I do have are simply delectable. They add a gorgeous color and a high-gloss shine, but they’re not as sticky as you’d think. Yes, there is definitely SOME stickiness, but that kind of thing has never bothered me. My favorite? Crazy for Caramel – it tastes and smells so heavenly, you have to try it to believe it!

4. Color Sensational High Shine Lipstick

These are soooo pigmented and make my lips look super shiny, like I have gloss on – but I don’t. Since I normally like to apply gloss over my lipstick, these are great to have on hand when I just want to swipe and go. Honestly, if you haven’t tried these yet, do so – it doesn’t feel drying like other lipsticks can and it really does what it claims to do.

5. Baby Lips Lip Balm

You can see the review I wrote on these here, and all these months later I still like to have a couple of these balms on hand. I prefer the minty varieties (like Peppermint) more than the colored ones, because I feel they’re more moisturizing. Plus, the colored ones make chapped lips REALLY noticeable, I’ve discovered – I keep those for when my lips are in good condition. Overall, though, these are great balms for the price and I love the fun, colorful packaging.

There you have it – my homage to Maybelline. What are your favorite Maybelline products? Any that stand out to you over all others?

Every month, I’m going to make a short post about my current beauty obsessions for that month; I want to encourage my readers to share their favorites too! Without further ado, here are my current December beauty favorites:

1. e.l.f. cream eyeliner

I’m currently loving e.l.f.’s cream liner; I have it in “Punk Purple.” It’s a great way to liven up any eye look with an unexpected pop of color, and the included brush makes it a cinch to apply. Plus, it lasts forever on my lids – especially if I use a primer beforehand.

2. Maybelline Shine Sensational Lip Gloss in Glamorous Guava

If I could, I would buy nearly all of the colors/flavors of this lip gloss from Maybelline. When I keep the focus on my eyes, this lip gloss is the perfect neutral accompaniment but it also looks great worn over your favorite lip color. Plus it smells and tastes FANTASTIC!

($6, Drugstores)

3. Julep Pomegranate Body Cream

Julep’ s Pomegranate Body Cream is a recent acquisition, and I am already loving how moisturized and soft it makes my skin feel. Plus, it smells soooo good! I’ve never been a huge fan of pomegranate anything, but this moisturizer smells sweet without being too cloying and it melts into my skin like butter.

I have a lot more “obsessions” for this month, but I think these three are the products I am really in love with. Now tell me: What are YOUR current beauty faves for December?

I am a BzzAgent, and I was recently invited to try the latest lip balm from Maybelline: Baby Lips. Available in five varieties/flavors, this lip balm promises to hydrate lips for a full eight hours while visibly renewing the look of your lips within four weeks. Now, I consider myself a lip balm junkie and was eager to test their claims; my 100% honest review follows after the break.

The right red lipstick can be bold, empowering and super sexy on any woman – you just need to find the right one for your skin tone! Check out my recommendations for the best red lipstick for your complexion, whether you’re super fair, dark skinned or anywhere in between.

If You’re Fair:

Look for a red lipstick with hints of coral/orange tones; this type of red won’t wash out your skin tone but rather complement your complexion. Best Picks: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire and Ice (pictured) $6.39, drugstores; L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in British Red, $8.95, drugstores; Rouge Dior Lipcolor in Blazing Red, $32, Sephora.

If You’re Medium:

Medium-skinned girls should look for a red lipstick with pink or cranberry undertones; true red shades look beautiful too. Best Picks: Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red, $6.39, drugstores; Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in Rouge Flamme, $30, Sephora; Maybelline ColorSensational Lipcolor in Are You Red-dy, (pictured) $7.49, drugstores.

If You’re Olive:

Strong, fire-engine reds look great on women with olive skin tones. Best Picks: Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Red, $23, Sephora; CoverGirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor in Red Satin, $8.24, drugstores; Too Faced Lip of Luxury in Runaway Red, (pictured) $20, Sephora.

If You’re Dark:

Avoid bright reds, and instead opt for deep brick reds or burgundy shades; those types of reds flatter darker skin beautifully. Best Picks: NARS Lipstick in Shanghai Express (pictured,) $24, Sephora; L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Pure Burgundy, $8.95, drugstores; Black Radiance Lipstick in Reggae Red, $1.99, drugstores.

Let me know how these work for you if you decide to try out the red lipstick trend for yourself! If you already rock red on a regular basis, leave a comment with whatever you think the perfect shade of red for your skin tone is. As always, stay lovely!

As a lover of all things beauty, I have been known to splurge a time or two (or three!) on expensive makeup. However, nothing beats the thrill I get when I purchase a budget-friendly product that works just as well as more expensive ones. With that in mind, I’ve compiled this list of the best budget eyeshadow I’ve tried throughout the years. None of them are more than $10!

1. Maybelline Expertwear Trio Eyeshadow

I love the shade selection of Maybelline’s Expertwear Trio Eyeshadow ($3.99.) Whether you want to create a neutral look for daytime or a classic smoky eye for evening, you’ll be able to with this dynamo product. The shadows glide on effortlessly, and leave behind a silky, finished look that doesn’t cake or smudge.

2. L’Oreal Wear Infinite Single Eyeshadow

This beautiful shadow blends beautifully and drenches your lids in lush, highly pigmented color that can be worn alone or combined with other colors for a gorgeous look. I like to use one shade as a base, and blend one or two other shades on top to create a more contoured, defined look. ($4.79)

3. CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 4 Kit Shadow

I love the bright, poppy colors of these shadows – they work especially well for the spring and summer months! For $4.99, you get four blendable shadows that are perfect when worn alone or combined. The compact even comes with how-to tips to help you recreate the look you want in minutes. Plus, the shadows seem to last for hours, even when I don’t use a shadow primer first. Beautiful!

4. e.l.f. Studio Cream Eyeshadow

Don’t let the price fool you – e.l.f.’s Studio Cream Eyeshadow packs a wicked punch for the mere price of $3.00. The creamy shadow glides on beautifully, and doesn’t cake or crease like a lot of the cream shadows I’ve tried in the past. The shade selection is nothing to laugh about, either – plus, it’s almost completely smudgeproof! Give it a try, and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

5. Sephora Collection Jumbo Liner 12HR Wear

Sure, these jumbo pencils are technically eyeliner, but they can easily be blended as shadows – I use them this way all the time! The pencil glides smoothly over lids and eliminates the mess of traditional creamy shadows. They won’t tug, fade or crease and, after a long evening of dancing, I found the color stayed put throughout the night! For $10, stock up on a few of your favorites and blend together for a truly customized look.

While these are my top 5 favorite budget eyeshadows, if I missed one of your picks don’t be afraid to nag me about it in the comments section 🙂 As always, stay lovely!
