A Lovely You – Makeup Tips for Every Woman

Posts Tagged ‘nail polish

Happy Monday, ladies! When I’m pressed for time or just feel particularly lazy, I always reach for a pale neutral polish like Essie Virgin Orchid. One or two coats, plus a fast-drying top coat, and I’m done! So, the question of the week is:

What is your go-to nail polish color?

If you have a favorite, please share in the comments below. Stay lovely!

On the hunt for cruelty free nail polish? I’ve found a selection of brands that subscribe to the cruelty-free motto, so feel free to give one of these a chance if you’re looking for high-quality polish without the guilt!

Priti NYC Nail Polish

Priti NYC Nail Polish comes in a wide variety of colors, from pale neutrals to in-your-face bolds, and all formulas are made without formaldehyde, dibutyl phathalate (DBP), toluene, and camphor. They also have a 50% off section you can browse when you’re on a tight budget.

Beauty Without Cruelty

Formulated without toluene, phthalates and formaldehyde, the polishes from Beauty Without Cruelty are a great brand to add to your cruelty-free collection. While on the pricier side, those who already pay for “designer” polish shouldn’t have a problem shelling out the cash. Their color selection offers a decent amount of shades, and you may find one or two truly unique colors here.

Hopscotch Kids

Targeted primarily towards children, these polishes will work great on your adult fingers too – and they’re completely non-toxic. If they’re good enough for kids to wear, you know they’re safe enough for you too! They sell several individual colors in fun shades, plus special gift sets and soy and plant based nail polish removers.

PeaceKeeper Nail Paint

Most of the polishes from this line are 100% vegan and cruelty-free, but make sure to check their FAQ page if you have any concerns. The Environmental Working Group has rated these polishes as a 3 as far as toxicity levels are concerned, and they are the highest ranked non-FD&C paint based nail polish currently on the list! If you’re looking for a great, natural polish, give this line a try.

There are lots of brands out their that advertise cruelty-free nail polish, but I wanted to highlight a few that many people may not be aware of. If you have a favorite cruelty-free brand, please share in the comments! As always, stay lovely.

Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips have become quite popular since their release, and I am loving their limited edition Holiday 2011 collection!

There are five different designs to choose from, including:

  • Plaid
  • Peppermint Twist (candy-cane inspired)
  • Snow Bunny (pink snowflake designs)
  • Prep’s Cool (argyle)
  • Winter Fun-derland (glitter)

For true holiday glam, I’d definitely go with Winter Fun-derland – but Peppermint Twist is the clear winner for being the most obvious holiday-inspired design. However, I’d have to say that plaid is my absolute favorite. What about you? Have you purchased a box of these yet? Let me know your thoughts!

Earlier today, Pacific World Corporation announced the upcoming launch of SensatioNail Invincible Gel Nail Polish. This innovative gel polish will give consumers up to two weeks of damage-free wear, allowing for a no-chip, no-smudge and no-break DIY manicure.

Says Marwan Zreik, SensatioNail Vice President of Marketing and Research & Development:

The overall nail care category has seen significant growth over the past year. As consumer focus and purchasing behavior has shifted to at-home, DIY products, we are thrilled to bring such an innovative product line to the market place. SensatioNail is the answer to multiple consumer and category demands, and never before has a gel product collection of this quality been available outside of the salon space.

The new line will debut at the end of November, and the initial product launch will feature the SensatioNail Starter Kit, packed with every tool you need for a salon quality manicure at home. In January, the complete collection will be rolled out including 12 fashion-forward colors.

As SensatioNail Creative Director Clara Lee puts it, they “don’t want the gel manicure experience to be limited to a salon.”

SensatioNail products will be available at WalMart and select CVS locations worldwide, and products will retail for anywhere between $12 and $60. For more information, please visit Facebook.com/SensatioNail.

Following in the footsteps of Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Glee, Nicki Minaj is the latest to create a capsule collection for OPI, with the names of the polishes based on her song titles.

The Nicki Minaj for OPI polish collection will feature six flamboyant shades, including a purple shade dubbed “Super-Bass Shatter,” “Metallic 4 Life,” a rainbow hue “Save Me,” “Pink Friday,” plus an aquamarine and a lime shade.

The collection will launch in January 2012, and will be available at Sephora and other select stores.

I am very excited about the upcoming nail trends we can expect to see this fall, especially since there are quite a few to choose from. From dark and ornate to glitzy and glam, these fall 2011 nail trends really pack a punch.

1. Neutrals

Neutrals are always a popular choice, especially for those who shy away from more “trendy” colors. From deep browns to barely-there nude and everything in between, neutral nails are fast becoming the go-to trend this fall. One to try: Essie Nail Color in Tea and Crumpets, $8, Beauty.com.

2. Glitter

While this look certainly isn’t for everyone, I adore glitter polish and feel it’s a great change for the fall season. You can wear the polish on every nail, but for a modern (and less in-your-face) twist, try painting one nail of each hand with glitter polish and paint the remaining nails a neutral or complementary shade. One to try: Sephora for Opi’s Only Gold For Me, $9.50, Sephora.com.

3. Metallics

Every year, metallic nail polish becomes a big trend and it’s easy to see why. They’re perfect for jazzing up your evening attire, and look great at parties and festive gatherings. Plus, they’re the quintessential feminine polish! One to try: Zoya Nail Polish in Tess, $8, zoya.com.

4. Jewel Tones

Rich jewel tones are a hallmark of the fall season, and nail color is following suit. From emerald green to peacock blue, rich eggplant and burnt orange, jewel tone nail polish is my favorite trend for fall 2011. One to try: ULTA Nail Polish in Envy, $5, ulta.com.

Which nail trend are you looking forward to the most this fall? Leave a comment and let me know – and, as always, stay lovely!
